F.A.Q.'S
1) The most common question we hear when it comes to wood fencing is this "What is the difference between Western Red Cedar and White Cedar and how do we know as a customer the difference?"
Answer:
The difference is staggering and we have department of agricultural testimonies that attest to that same statement. White cedar is much cheaper than western red cedar and is typically not a flat surfaced board. . It is often smooth and has either a beveled edge or rounded look to it.
The reason why it is not a true 5/8" thick board for the entire 3 and ½" width of the product is because it is from the outside of the tree. We all know a tree is round but the average consumer does not know that those pickets are taken from that outside edge of the tree. The knots are bigger and more noticeable because this is where the branches enter the trunk.
2) Second most common question or statement we hear when it comes to wood
fencing is this "Is your cedar all heartwood?" or "this salesman said his
Company uses only heartwood for all of their fences!"
Answer:
I will explain this in a very straight forward fashion to hopefully clarify a much needed issue. We live in America and the mills that are supplying fence companies and or lumber yards would not make money by supplying all heartwood for each portion of a cedar fence. The center of the tree is the heart of the tree and only the posts (6x6, 4x4) and big stock lumber (2x12) comes from the heart of that tree. They are called mills because they have milled the center of that tree for its intended purpose. Once the center of the tree is used then they start with 2x10, 2x8 and of course 2x4's. Finally they are left with usable surface for the pickets and the center of the tree is gone. The closer you get to the outside of that tree the bigger the knots- the cheaper the material.
3) The most common question we hear when it comes to vinyl fences is this "Is all vinyl the same?"
Answer:
The best analogy that can be used here is by using your house as an
example. I am sure you have all seen vinyl siding on a home after a hailstorm, ever wonder why some houses in a different subdivision right next door do not have the same damage? All vinyl is not the same! The thinner vinyl needs aluminum inserts for added strength but the drawback of using this thinner vinyl is that the aluminum insert attracts heat from the sun and the thinner vinyl around it also gets heated and begins to wave and or buckle . . . you get what you pay for!
4) "Is all aluminum fencing the same?"
Answer:
Not at all . . . you get what you pay for! Each manufacturer of aluminum is responsible for a portion of the overall sales of aluminum fencing. Right now there are two major aluminum fence suppliers kind of like Ford and Chevy used to be in the auto industry. It took a long time for other manufacturers to become reputable because they had to at first start producing reputable products. It is of my opinion and I have independent test studies to prove it, however, there are great, good, and bad products available for fences.
5) Finally, what I consider to be one of the most important questions a potential customer has asked whether it be for a fence, deck, patio, and/or any project we are considering building , "What is UPRIGHT FENCES / DOWNRIGHT PATIOS going to do different than this or that other company?"
Answer:
Everything! We are going to do everything different than any other company you may be choosing to build your project. As an owner, I will personally assure you that we will install this project as if it were in our own backyard. I have hired and kept quality installers and have purposely kept this company small because of the amount of pride I have in the company and in ourselves. Your fence will be installed Upright and your patio Downright. We do not cut corners, our installers are not paid with incentives to finish a job quickly instead they are paid to finish a job with Integrity. Our office staff is trained in the same way.
